South Dakota FBLA State Executive Board Meeting

October 20, 2003

Dakota State University, Madison, SD

 

President Abby Kroupa called the meeting to order at 11:45 A.M.She challenged each chapter to set high goals for the upcoming year and thanked those whom attended.

 

President Abby Kroupa first presented the State Officer team.Then she introduced the special guests, which were the following:the DSU PBL and the State PBL Officers.

 

West River Vice President Cierra Lindquist led the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

East River Vice President Beth Ebert led the FBLA Pledge.

 

Secretary Amanda Henke took roll of the State Officers and all were present.Also Secretary Henke completed the roll call of local chapters.Those in attendance were the following:210 members, 17 advisers, 1 professional member, and 1 chaperone.Attached is a more detailed list of attendees.

 

Reporter Kindal Konechne introduced the State Executive Committee, which included the following:President Abby Kroupa and Adviser Doris Ann Chmela, East River Vice President Beth Ebert and Adviser Gary Gangle, West River Vice President Cierra Lindquist and Adviser Chad Eisenbraun, Secretary Amanda Henke and Adviser Lori Vogt, Treasurer Andrea Honermann and Adviser Lori Vogt, Reporter Kindal Konechne and Adviser Doris Ann Chmela, Parliamentarian Rachelle McGruder and Adviser Cheryl Ulmen, State Executive Secretary Lynette Molestad-Groder, State Chairperson Steve Rounds, and State Adviser Doris Ann Chmela.

 

West River Vice President Cierra Lindquist introduced the Board of Directors.

 

Parliamentarian Rachelle McGruder reminded everyone to obey Robertís Rules of Order and follow Parliamentary Procedures.These rules provide structure to the meetings and promote efficiency.

 

Secretary Amanda Henke moved to dispense with the reading of the minutes as they have been sent to all local chapters.The motion was seconded by Treasurer Andrea Honermann and was carried.

 

Treasurer Andrea Honermann reported that our current balance was $952.36.The report was placed on file for audit.

 

East River Vice President Beth Ebert gave the National Fall Leadership Conference Report.The South Dakota State Officer team, 3 advisers, and 6 local members will be attending NFLC in Baltimore, Maryland.While there, the group will attend workshops and visit historic monuments.A more in depth report will be given at the next State Executive Board Meeting.

 

Standing Committee Report

 

         President Kroupa stated that this yearís Program of Work could be found in your chapterís registration packet.

 

          Secretary Henke read off this yearís Adopt A Chapter assignments.The main goal of this yearís program is to improve communication between the state and local levels of FBLA.A detailed copy of these assignments was in the registration packet.

 

          Reporter Konechne gave her State Newsletter Report.She has completed the first newsletter of the year and hopes to put this newsletter on her webpage.She plans to complete another newsletter in December and requests 1 article and pictures from each chapter.

 

          Parliamentarian McGruder gave the State Scrapbook Report.The theme of this yearís scrapbook is ďBuilding Leaders for a Brighter Tomorrow.ĒShe also requested that each chapter send her pictures in order to have everyone represented in our scrapbook.

 

          East River Vice President Ebertís report pertained to the State Website (www.fbla.dsu.edu).She plans to update the website two times.

 

          Treasurer Honermann gave the March of Dimes Report.As one of the many organizations that support this very worthy cause, we raised $1,100 and hope to exceed that amount this year.

 

          West River Vice President Lindquist gave the Join Hands Day Report.This projectís goal is to strengthen FBLAís relationships within the community through volunteer service, which will be held on June 16, 2004.

 

Special Committee Reports

 

          Reporter Konechne requested that each chapter submit pictures for the State Slide Show, which will be viewed at the Spring Leadership Conference.

 

Unfinished Business

 

          President Kroupa reported that the National Fall Leadership Conference will be held in Baltimore, Maryland.

 

          West River Vice President Lindquist brought to the Boardís attention the Realignment issue.This item will need to be brought up at three State Executive Board Meetings before voting will occur.She encouraged those with questions or concerns pertaining to the matter to either contact a State Officer or attend the next board meeting in Pierre.

 

New Business

 

          The 2004 State Spring Leadership Conference will be held at the Sheraton Hotel in Sioux Falls on April 4-6.James H. Wand, a hypnotist, will be the keynote speaker.

 

          The State Officer team has decided to implement the same plaque program as the previous year.An email containing more details will be sent out soon.

 

          There will be a T-shirt design contest for all chapters.Forms for the contest can be found in the registration packets and all entries must be sent to Abby Kroupa by November 5th.

 

          The National Leadership Conference will be held in Denver, Colorado on July 14-17.We have decided to travel by bus to the conference.

 

          The 2005 State Spring Leadership Conference will be held in Pierre on April 10-12 and our speaker will be Sam Glenn, an artist.

          National Leadership Conference:Baltimore, MD November 21-22, 2003

          Executive Board Meeting/Shadow Day:Pierre, SD February 9-10, 2004

          Budget Meeting:Mitchell, SD March 1, 2003

          State Leadership Conference:Sioux Falls, SD Sheraton Hotel, April 4-6, 2004

          National Leadership Conference:Denver, CO July 14-17, 2004
